About SELL, Studies in English Language & Literature

Studies in English Language & Literature is the journal of the Association of English Language and Literature in Korea. Since 1969, SELL, a quarterly journal, has published articles of interest to scholars of language and literature.

All issues are sent directly to over 300 college and university teachers of English and foreign languages who belong to the association and to about 20 libraries nationwide in Korea.

Editorial Policy for Essays

SELL welcomes essays of interest to those concerned with the study of English language and literature. As the publication of a large and heterogeneous association, the journal is receptive to a variety of topics, whether general or specific, and to all scholarly methods and theoretical perspectives. Manuscripts in English languages and Koran language are accepted for review but must be accompanied by a detailed abstract in English.

Submissions, prepared according to Guide to Scholarly Publishing for AELLK, and the MLA Style Manual in USA

A research manuscript shall ideally consist of maximum 20 printed pages (about 12,000 words) inclusive of figures and tables. Any quantity beyond these prescribed quantities may be accepted subject to the approval of the Editing Committee. For over the quantity limit manuscript, the contributor shall pay for the extra typesetting cost for additional quantity.

Manuscript shall be written in English or Korean.

Type of paper and method used for writing manuscript

Manuscript shall, in principle, be written in A4 paper, in double-space, using MS-Word. Appropriate margins shall be installed on the top, bottom, left, and right of the manuscript to make reading easy.

Composition of Manuscript

A manuscript shall, in principle, be composed based on the following sequence of topics.

Abstract

  • The Abstract shall feature a brief summary with 100-120 words, including the contents of the manuscript and major conclusions, all set in one paragraph, and shall have 5 to 6 keywords.

The manuscript Format

  • Microsoft Word 97 or above

Author's Name

Names should be arranged as follows: first author, second, third, depending on the level of contribution
e.g.) By John Done*, Amy Hardy**, and Jane Lawrence***

  • Authors' names should not appear on manuscripts; instead, a cover sheet, with the author's name and address and the title of the article, should accompany each manuscript. If the contribution includes any materials (e.g., quotations that exceed fair use, illustrations, charts, other graphics) that have been taken from another source, the author must obtain written permission to reproduce them in print and electronic formats.

AELLK holds the academic conference twice a year: Spring and Fall.
