Abstract

Han, Jinhee. ¡°The Relationship Between Extracurricular English Program and Competency Enhancement.¡± Studies in English Language & Literature 49.3 (2023): 147-164. This research paper aims to investigate the nature and effectiveness of the extracurricular English program at C University in Korea, with a focus on enhancing learners¡¯ Glocal competency. This study adopts a quantitative approach, collecting survey data from a diverse sample of students participating in the extracurricular English program at C University. The findings reveal that students experienced significant improvements in their English listening and writing skills, followed by reading, speaking, grammar, and vocabulary. The majority of participants expressed high satisfaction levels with the program and reported positive development in their target competency. However, a discrepancy was observed between the desired competencies of learners and the program¡¯s target competencies, emphasizing the need for alignment. These findings contribute to the existing knowledge of extracurricular English programs and provide insights for educators, policymakers, and program developers to enhance language learning initiatives. Ultimately, this study aims to improve the quality and outcomes of extracurricular English programs, promoting students¡¯ English language proficiency and overall language learning experience.
